Countdown To DIRTcar All-Star Weekend: Day 19

Culminating with the headline ‘All-Star 100’ on July 19, the start of DIRTcar All-Star Weekend ’09 on the Cayuga County Fairgrounds is just over two weeks away. The historic Weedsport, New York speedway comes to life for three straight days of heart-pounding, high-powered, pedal-mashing entertainment, with the 100-lap Big-Block Modified winner on Sunday taking home $20,000 from the record $100,000 purse.

Commemorating the 34th straight season of operation for the DIRTcar Racing organization and founding member facility Cayuga County Fair Speedway, all 34 days leading up to the historic event are filled with important news, notes and nostalgia, each continuing to showcase the biggest motorsports extravaganza of the summer --- including the richest race ever scheduled in the history of the popular Route 31 oval.

All roads lead to Weedsport for the inaugural All-Star 100 --- the richest short-track race in the country ever scheduled for the mighty Big-Block Modifieds. While all eyes will be focused on the Sunday evening main event showcasing the best Modifieds in the Northeast, the Mr. DIRTcar Sportsman Championship Series final slated for Saturday at Cayuga County Fair Speedway is sure to grab some of the attention. Anchors of the storied Weedsport oval in 2009 are Big-Block point leaders Alan Johnson, Jimmy Phelps, Steve Paine, Matt Sheppard and Ryan Phelps, while Super DIRTcar Series rivals Brett Hearn, Billy Decker, Dale Planck, Gary Tomkins and Michael Storms are planning to be in town for this historic high stakes happening. Sportsman drivers on the rise figuring in the current CCFS point standings are Dave Marcuccilli, Justin Wright, Ben Wheeler, Robert Humphreys and Marcus Dinkins, with Mr. DIRTcar title contenders Chris Raabe, Matt Billings, Sammy Reakes IV, Adam Turner and Brandon Sweet on the way to The Port for their own headline event in July. DIRTcar All-Star Weekend will be a record-shattering occasion on every front, and the stars of the future are ready to shine as it’s the ‘Super DIRT Week of the Summer’ without a doubt.
