2009 Season Review: Although boasting a dozen years of prior short-track experience, ’09 marked Scagliotta’s first season following the DIRTcar points trail. At the age of 47, the Garden State chauffeur not only garnered Motorsports Safety Systems/G-Force Rookie of the Year honors in the Big-Block division, he also chased the 358-Modified Series around the Northeast for seven months. He placed 17th in the overall Hoosier Tire-VP Racing Fuels Mr. DIRTcar Modified standings and climbed into 18th position on the Mr. DIRTcar 358-Mod chart, logging a single Top-10 finish in both championship runs. At the season-ending DIRTcar NE ‘Night of Champions’ banquet his perseverance was publicly recognized as he was presented a special ‘Determination Award’ for his tireless effort.

Series History: His maiden voyage in the ’09 Super DIRTcar Series resulted in qualifying for half of the 20 features ---also hitting all but two Mr. DIRTcar 358-Mod Championship shows that ran in conflict--- with a 10th-place best tallied at Cornwall (Ont.) Motor Speedway in August. Only a handful of SDS stops had filled his DIRTcar Racing resume during the new millennium, with trips closer to home at Georgetown (Del.) Speedway in 2008 (finished 17th) and New Egypt (N.J.) Speedway in 2007 (12th, 14th, 22nd) the most recent chronicled in his quest to take on the best in the DIRTcar Big-Block business.

DIRTcar Racing Record: Along with making the lengthy haul from his New Jersey home for the majority of Mr. DIRTcar Championship events staged throughout the 2009 campaign, Scagliotta also frequented charter member tracks Canandaigua Speedway (20th pts/5 starts) and Cayuga County Fair Speedway (31st/3 starts) to earn valuable bonus points towards the organization’s overall titles. Participation in the Small-Block ranks was just as noteworthy as his Big-Block endeavors as he emerged as the first New Jerseyman ---excluding perennial power Brett Hearn--- to chase Mr. DIRTcar 358-Modified points since Richie Pratt Jr. climbed to fifth in the 2005 final standings.
Fun Facts: Holding the titles of team owner, driver and crew chief for his entirely self-funded operation, Rich is also President of Adamsville Maintenance, an Excavation Contractor Lawn/Garden Services Concrete Contractor providing road work, land clearing and paving in the Garden State. His girlfriend and key crew member Randie Rudy, an avid slow-pitch softball player, has already won three powder puff races at New Egypt. With motor-cross preempting his entrance into the stock car arena, his hobbies and interests continue to include bicycling, basketball & running (triathlon), His annual vacation “anytime we’re not working a regular job and can put all the time into car racing” in February is spent at Volusia Speedway Park competing in the Florida DIRTcar Nationals. While qualifying for the 2004 DCN at Volusia, Scagliotta was captured in one of the most violent front-stretch flips ever taken during the winter tour. Check out
