2009 Season Review: Enjoying his most productive season in the Super DIRTcar Series alongside teammate Matt Sheppard, Brownell missed five shows yet used three top-5 finishes to reach paydirt in the final Hoosier Tire-VP Racing Fuels Mr. DIRTcar Modified Championship. Opening with a career-best second-place series finish at Big Diamond Raceway in Pennsylvania, the recently recognized Glen Ridge Motorsports Park (5 wins) Big-Block points titlist added two more front-fives at Lebanon Valley and Rolling Wheels Raceway to put his father’s JB Motorsports no. 29 XTreme Lubricants/Bicknell ride into a points fund payoff position. Also picking up his first-ever feature win at Canandaigua (NY) Speedway during the regular season, Brownell garnered four heat race victories on tour to highlight his best year to date.

Series History: Prior to the past two seasons, with the exception of 2005, Brownell only competed locally in Super DIRTcar Series events staged throughout the newest millennium. Placing 23rd in his 2000 rookie Big-Block campaign, he qualified at 17 of the 21 tour stops made in ’05 on his way to reaching 15th in the overall Mr. DIRTcar points chase. Nearly matching his series regularity in 2008, Brownell reached the starting grid in 16 of the 26 Modified main events, posting his lone Top-10 at DIRTcar Racing Northeast hub Cayuga County Fair Speedway (7th) during the traditional Labor Day weekend shootout

DIRTcar Racing Record: Jumping behind the wheel of a mighty Big-Block Modified in his Y2K short track debut, Brownell has been a weekend fixture primarily at DIRTcar NE charter member ovals Cayuga County and Canandaigua, finishing 6th (CCFS) and 7th (CAN) in 2009 track points after climbing to 8th (CCFS), 12th (CAN) and 13th (Rolling Wheels) on the final ’08 speedway charts. He scored his first Big-Block wins at Cayuga County in 2005, in the last half of the decade mixing in brief stints further north at both Can-Am Motorsports Park and Thunder Alley Speedpark as well as Glen Ridge on Fridays where he was crowned ’08 and ’09 points king.

Fun Fact: Prior to making his plunge into the Big-Block ranks, Brownell was a winning pilot racing go-carts at Frozen Ocean Motorsports Complex in Auburn, N.Y. during the late 1990s. Also racing carts at Paradise Speedway and indoors at tracks such as the one at the Center of Progress Building on the NYS Fairgrounds.
