2007 Season Review: On the heels of dramatic season-ending triumphs in the Super DIRT Week Rite Aid 200 on the Syracuse Mile and Victoria 200 at Fulton Speedway, Johnson opened the ’07 campaign with a dominating performance at Volusia Speedway Park to cash in on his third Florida DIRTcar Nationals title. Despite collecting Advance Auto Parts Series wins in the inaugural trek to Virginia Motor Speedway, at Niagara Frontier tracks Ransomville (NY) and Merrittville (Ont.) speedways, then finally in Cayuga County Fair Speedway’s make-up Hall of Fame Classic, inconsistency thwarted his best efforts given throughout the season as owner Dave Thompson’s first-string pilot aboard the no. 27J Chief’s Tobacco & Gas Troyer mount. The ‘Doctor’ ultimately closed out the year back together with the JIR Motorsports squadron placing a disappointing 43rd due to terminal motor trouble in the Eastern States 200 finale at Orange County Fair Speedway after time trialing third quickest. In between, D.J. collected six heat race wins and led seven events for a tour third-best 205 laps, ending the year eighth in Mr. DIRTcar Championshop points after scoring nine front-five finishes and 14 top-10s in 30 races run. Johnson also scored a second-best 11 DIRTcar Big-Block Modified feature wins at seven tracks throughout the Northeast, with three more checkered flags registered in DIRTcar 358-Modified competition.
