2009 Season Review: Making all but three tour appearances in his third year following the Super DIRTcar Series, Dunn placed 14th steering the family-owned Number One Speed no. 49 American Traditions-Fast Lube of Watertown/Bicknell machine. He finished among the Top-10 three times and registered his lone front-five (4th-place) at Brockville Ontario Speedway in the July excursion across the border. While Dunn managed two qualifying heat race wins on the trail, the Watertown, N.Y. racer was more successful on weekends with three victories elevating him to the top of the Big-Block Modified point standings by season’s end at Can-Am Motorsports Park.

Series History: The open-wheel upstart made his Series debut at Virginia Motor Speedway in May of 2007 and has rarely missed a tour stop since. En route to finishing 10th in Mr. DIRTcar points, Dunn qualified for 30 Modified mains in ’07, posting 7 Top-10s and chasing fellow north country contender Tim Fuller across the line to finish a career-best 2nd at Cayuga County in August. In his sophomore season he cracked the Top-10 on three occasions to reluctantly accept the Holley Hard Luck Award after ranking 12th in points after 26 events. Also accepting Area Auto Racing News Hard Luck and a special Sportsmanship award at the season-ending banquet in 2008, Dunn led 39 laps at Autodrome Granby and posted four qualifying heat wins in both the U.S. and Canada.

DIRTcar Racing Record: Waiting four seasons just for the chance to join the DIRTcar Racing Modified mainstream, Dunn finally made it into victory lane when he scored his first career Big-Bock feature win at Can-Am Motorsports Park on July 8, 2006. He has since added three more at the LaFargeville, N.Y layout along with posting victories at Thunder Alley Speedpark (2006) and Cayuga County Fair Speedway (2007). Launching his motorsports career in 2001, Dunn copped the ’02 New York State UMP-type Modified title yet engine woes the next two seasons allowed him to contest in only a handful of Big-Block events.
Fun Facts: Billy is also a favorite away from the race track during the summer months as he manages his father Norm’s Frosty’s Ice Cream parlor right beside their just as familiar family business --- Number One Speed --- in rural Watertown. Residing in the neighborhood of New York State’s Thousand Islands Region, Dunn has plenty of success stories to fall back on from recognized north country runners Bob and Tim McCreadie and Tim Fuller, all of which hold close ties with Number One Speed and are frequent customers at Frosty’s during race season.
