2009 Season Review: Fresh off his first overall Hoosier Tire-VP Racing Fuels Mr. DIRTcar Big-Block Championship in 10 years, Billy Decker settled for three spots lower in his attempt to defend, although the ‘Franklin Flyer’ still posted four wins in Super DIRTcar Series competition. Adding 10 top-5 finishes in the LJL Motorsports no. 91 Gypsum Wholesalers-Stadium Int'l-Quality Hardwoods/Bicknell ride, the open-wheel veteran from Unadilla, New York copped 8 heat wins, led six main events for 91 laps and posted a handful of Integra Shocks Fast Times --- making him now the all-time quick qualifier with 42 in his colored career. Decker won the first of his series races at Orange County Fair (NY) Speedway in mid-June and followed up a month later in victory lane at Autodrome Granby in Quebec before claiming consecutive tour triumphs in the Empire State at Lebanon Valley Speedway and Cayuga County Fair Speedway. Driving for car owners John & Laura Wight for a sixth straight year, he also copped the Wight-owned Fulton Speedway points title and scored 14 Big-Block feature wins at six tracks to close out his 26th season of open-wheel racing on the DIRTcar Northeast circuit.

Along with capturing a pair of overall Hoosier Tire-VP Racing Fuels Mr. DIRTcar Modified Championships (2008, 1998), he also added four Lebanon Valley 200 titles and a pair of Rolling Wheels National 200 triumphs to his resume, with Orange County’s Eastern States 200 trophy in 1998 another prized possession. Last season climbing to the top of the all-time career list with 42 Integra Shocks Fast Times set in series qualifying, Decker owns nine track Modified speed marks including the single lap record of 28.348 sec. DIRTcar Racing Record: Decker has posted 186 Big-Block feature wins since graduating from the small-block (15 wins) ranks in 1985 and has garnered 13 individual DIRTcar track championships in the Empire State; 4-Brewerton, 3-Cayuga County, 2-Lebanon Valley, 2-Rolling Wheels, 1-Canandaigua, 1-Fulton. The 1998 DIRTcar Northeast Driver of the Year led all Big-Block chauffeurs that same season wit 18 feature wins and pulled off a ‘Triple Decker’ with track point titles collected at Canandaigua, Cayuga County and Brewerton. Punctuating his most successful season (23 wins) in a motorsports career that now spans 28 years, he was honored as the 2008 Eastern Motorsport Press Association Richie Evans Memorial Northeastern Driver of the Year at the annual EMPA Convention held outside Philadelphia. He was also among an elite group of 23 drivers from across the country nominated for National Speed Sport News’ 2008 Economaki Champion of Champions Award presented by Speedway Motorsports, Inc.

Fun Fact: Heralded as DIRTcar Northeast’s most frequent flier, Decker has racked up more miles in the air than any other Advance Series title contender during the new millennium. Co-owner of Quality Hardwoods, Inc. located in Sidney, New York, the ‘Franklin Flyer’ often puts in full day’s work before boarding a plane and touching down on a local airstrip just in time to make the next tour event.
