2009 Season Review: Aside from scoring a decisive victory on the ‘Fourth of July’ at Fulton Speedway, Johnson’s 9th-place finish in the final overall Hoosier Tire-VP Racing Fuels Mr. DIRTcar standings was just as mediocre as that of his brother. And like his younger sibling Danny ---making rounds on the carousel of open-wheel cars in recent years--- Johnson added only three more Top-5 finishes in his self-owned no. 14J Bully's Truck Stop/Bicknell special, logging early season heat wins in the Big Diamond (Pa.) Raceway opener and during Fulton’s command performance. The second-generation driver did tally a half-dozen regular season feature wins at weekend stops of Brewerton, Fulton and Cayuga County, where he successful defended his track points championship --- bringing his CCFS total to six in the new millennium and nine since 1981.

Series History: With an open-wheel career punctuated by consistency, Johnson's smooth driving style has garnered him five overall Hoosier Tire-VP Racing Fuels Mr. DIRTcar Big-Block Modified Championships (2006, 2002-03, 1983, 1981) spanning three decades. His major race resume includes three Rite Aid 200 Super DIRT Week Championships on the Syracuse Mile and an Eastern States 200 victory at Orange County Fair Speedway among his 51 (4th all-time) Super DIRTcar Series triumphs. Since following the DIRTcar Northeast circuit he has finished out of the top-10 in the overall Mr. DIRTcar points just six times in 34 seasons and established the mark of 30 consecutive seasons with at least one top-five finish. Johnson has set fast time in qualifying on eight occasions, owns track speed marks at Cayuga County and Rolling Wheels, as well as holding single-season series records of consecutive wins (3) and consecutive top-five finishes (11).

DIRTcar Racing Record: The eldest of the speedy siblings from Central New York, Alan remains DIRTcar Northeast's career Big-Block Modified feature win leader (364) and is the only driver to register at least one Big-Block win every year since the organization’s inception in 1976. He tops the group with 30 Big-Block track titles garnered at six New York State tracks, 9-Cayuga County, 8-Rolling Wheels, 5-Canandaigua, 4-Brewerton, 3-Ransomville, 1-Fulton. Johnson is also a four-time overall Hoosier-VP Mr. DIRTcar 358-Modified Champion and has earned six 358 track titles while 49 of his 114 DIRT Small-Block wins have come in Mr. DIRTcar Championship Series competition. DIRTcar Racing Northeast’s Driver of the Year (2001-03) is also a 2-time Florida DIRTcar Nationals Champion (1983, 1989) and topped the Texas Tour points chart in 1988. To cap off his most recent Mr. DIRTcar Big-Block campaign in ’06, Johnson was voted the Eastern Motorsport Press Association’s Richie Evans Memorial Northeast Driver of the Year for the second time (2003) in four years.

Fun Facts: His father Milt Johnson, long-time B&M Motors proprietor, previously built motors for NASCAR Modified king Richie Evans, yet Alan passed up the pavement parade for the chance to broadslide on the dirt bullrings throughout the Northeast ….. As soon as the last checkered flag flies in the fall, A.J. Slideways switches gears in the off-season and rides his snowmobile during the winter months ….. The 2006 season ended with Johnson becoming a grandfather for the first time as daughter Danielle gave birth to Mason Cruz Baye on Dec. 16.
